Off Grid or Stand Alone Solar Systems

Off Grid systems are primarily used for powering remote locations like cabins or hunting lodges or for adding light to outbuildings like boat docks or storage sheds. Generally it’s only practical to install an Off Grid system if running utility lines to the location is either impossible or cost prohibitive.

The same components used in Grid Tied systems are used in Off Grid systems with the addition of batteries and a battery charge controller. Off Grid systems require a battery bank to store the electricity for use at night and cloudy days. Generally, a battery bank with the capacity to power the home for three days without recharging is sufficient.

System sizing becomes extremely important for a stand alone solar home. Understanding the electrical load of all the home appliances and lighting requirements is the first step. Calculating the system size is also dependent on a number of other factors including placement, orientation and shading of the array as well as power loss due to wire distance, battery chargers and AC inverters.

Liberty Solar Solutions has the means necessary to accurately size your system. A variety of options will be considered incorporating energy efficiency as well as design flexibility and back-up power generation.
